We’ve built a general purpose electrolytic capacitor based pulser. Initially it drove a large set of coils, but is present application drives a series chain of a dozen smaller coils. This arrangement does not have a sufficiently short R/L time constant, so SCR switching is not adequate – as the charging supply kicks in and keeps the SCR conducting, therefore not allowing the cap bank to recharge. An IGBT was needed and Jay worked with a colleague to develop a TTL driven pulsed switch.
